Congratulations to Trek of Pittsburgh/Top Gear for winning the 2011 Best Bike Shop Tailgate Tent.

The organizers are ringing our own custom made cowbells in applause for helping create a fun sideline atmosphere.

We also thank Big Bang Bicycles, ProBikes, and West Liberty Cycles for their contributions and help in bringing the party to the Steel City Showdown. You really helped make this a memorable event!

Tailgate

As racers zoom around the course of the Steel City Showdown, cyclists and spectators will be able to participate in the Showdown Tailgate, our party on the sidelines! The Showdown Tailgate, located on West General Robinson Street between the racers' parking lot and the starting line, will provide a festival atmosphere where the public will get an opportunity to mingle with cyclists, check out bikes, learn many aspects of the sport of cycling, and get information on future cycling events in the city.

The Showdown Tailgate began as a friendly competition among bike shops, and local shops will definitely "bring it" as they compete for the award of Best Tailgate Tent. In addition to the shops, fans will also mingle with national cycling brands and retailers as well as AGH Sports Medicine, Cycling Fusion, and other sponsors.

We are also excited about several nonprofit and local advocacy groups that will bring their unique perspectives in cycling to the Showdown Tailgate. These groups include Team H2Ope, a RAAM team from Ohio, BikePGH and Venture Outdoors, as well as other charity organizations with a cycling focus.

Team H2Ope - We are extremely proud to bring to the race Team H2Ope, a Cleveland-based 4-person team competing this June in the Race Across America (RAAM), one of the most challenging events in the world. Tailgate visitors can meet the team, talk about their upcoming race across the country, and buy delicious baked goods to support the team and their charity, the Blue Planet Network Water Fund.

Bike-PGH - Bike Pittsburgh is a member-based advocacy organization that works to protect cyclists' rights and promote the vision of making Pittsburgh a safer and more enjoyable place to live and to ride. Bike Pittsburgh has worked with the City to develop bike paths and lanes throughout the city, and recently received the Advocacy Organization of the Year award from the Alliance for Biking and Walking at the National Bike Summit in Washington DC. We are proud to welcome them to the Tailgate, where they will talk more about the efforts of their organization and their summer festival, BikeFest.

Venture Outdoors - Venture Outdoors is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for people to get active, get outside and enjoy the outdoors! Venture Outdoors will share more opportunities to enjoy our beautiful city and region, as well as talk about their signature event, the Venture Outdoors Festival on May 21.

Bike MS - More than just a ride -- it's a ride with a mission. The goal of Bike MS is to have more than 1,600 cyclists take on the challenge of the 2-day Escape to the Lake ride on June 11 & 12, 2011. Bike MS raises money for the National MS Society, an organization that helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.

Tour de Cure - Tour de Cure is a series of fundraising cycling events held in 43 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. It is a ride, not a race, so take it at your own speed and enjoy the journey. All Tour de Cure routes are safe and fully supported with route marshals, SAG vehicles, mechanical support, and rest stops stocked with hydration and a variety of snacks to keep you fueled. At the finish, you will be welcomed with cheering volunteers, great food and more. Come learn about the organization, and sign up for to ride your bike for a great cause!
